AGoNY – In Flight (Free EP)

February 12, 2013

Donald Byrd is a legend in the hip hop world sampled time and time again by anybody from Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Large Professor, Common, Pete Rock and 2Pac to Action Bronson, Smoke Dza & SlaughterHouse, as well as collaborating with the late Guru of Gang Starr on the Jazzmatazz series and I am sure a host more.

Byrd’s greatest work was recorded for the legendary Blue Note Records. In the 70’s his collaborations with the Mizell Brothers resulted in jazz tinged R&B which made for some funky albums like 1975’s Places & Spaces. The aforementioned contains heavily sampled records like “Wind Parade” (Black Moon “Buck Em Down,” Organized Konfusion “Stray Bullet”) and “Dominoes” (DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince “Brand New Funk”).
Enjoy, and by all means, research more of his music and who sampled him. Read this, love this, spread this.
